Jif Vinkel is a project with Norwegian brand Orkla. Our brief was to redesign bottle of Jif.
Important fact was that the bottle will be mass produced by method called Plastic injection molding.

Process

First of all we took a look on existing product and mapped out the visual identity and eventual pain points.
We found out that to spraying upwards is problematic as well as getting out rests of bottle's content.
Making top of our battle angled helped to solve this problem.

First of all we took a look on existing product and analysed the visual identity as well.

Pain points

For finale shape we decided to go for combination of those 2 sketches.

After we landed on a shape it was time to make a digital 3D model (CAD). Model was used to print out prototypes for testing.
During the testing we located some issues so we readjusted our model. With new model we made a negative body of it in order to crate form for Plastic injection molding.
Form is filled with plastic, later one compressed air is pumped into it

Experience

In this project I've learned limitations of Plastic injection molding, how does whole process from brief to production looks like and how important our choices as designer are (I could decide how big bottle would be and that impacts how much plastics is used). I realised how important it is to be precise and structured while working in CAD programs. With this project I've significantly improved my organic forms skils in CAD.
